| Description |
English: Bateswood Opencast coal site 1983 [5] In the workings of the opencast in February 1983. The coal was relatively easy working once it was dug down to, however historically it had been quite a dangerous complex of deep mines forming part of the North Staffordshire coalfield. I was told that the brown streak down the exposed face was the remains of one of the C19th vent shafts from either Leycett or Scot Hay colliery. See also 812277, 812318, 812348 and 812371. |
