Summary[edit]
DescriptionBathgate (1986) railway station (site), West Lothian (geograph 3707633).jpg |
English: Bathgate (1986) railway station (site), West Lothian The first Bathgate station was opened on this site in 1849 by the Edinburgh and Bathgate Railway. It was replaced in 1862 by a second station 100m further south, built on the curve of the new extension line through to Coatbridge. This second station closed to passengers in 1956. And so history repeats itself. When British Rail reopened the passenger line to Bathgate in 1986, they chose the same terminus site as in 1849. View north west towards the buffers. (And then in 2010, the line was reopened through to Coatbridge and Glasgow. Rather than rebuild on the curved 1862 station site, the 2010 station was built some 400m south east of this site, on the straight, with car parks and carriage sidings). |
