Summary
[edit]DescriptionBeaupre Castle near Cowbridge - geograph.org.uk - 1235860.jpg |
English: Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge Old Beaupre was a medieval and then Tudor manor house, built around two courtyards. The medieval part, dating from about 1300. Rebuilding was undertaken by Sir Rice Manselin the 16th century and continued by William Bassett to be finished by his son Richard. The northernmost buildings around the middle court were added in this time including the most important feature, the outer gatehouse and storeyed porch. Heraldic panels and inscriptions also feature and show who was responsible for the building of the house. Entry to the house is through the three-storeyed outer gatehouse and embattled curtain wall, part of the Tudor rebuilding.
The building has many interesting features and is, at the time of submission having remedial work carried out by CADW. This is due completion on 31 May 2009. |
