Description
Српски / srpski: Beogradska tvrđava se nalazi na grebenu iznad ušća Save u Dunav, strateški važnoj poziciji poslednjeg uzvišenja na Balkanskom poluostrvu koje kontroliše prilaz Panonskoj niziji i plovidbu rekama. Zbog svog pograničnog položaja tokom istorije (na granici između Rimskog carstva i varvarskih teritorija s druge strane Dunava ili granici između Osmanskog i Austrougarskog carstva, na primer) mnogo puta je rušena, ponovo građena i dograđivana, tako da su danas jedva vidljivi tragovi najstarijih delova tvrđave izgrađenih krajem 1. veka nove ere za potrebe IV legije rimskog carstva - Flavia Felix. Kompleks beogradske tvrđave čine Gornji grad, Donji (ili Vodeni) grad i park Kalemegdan. Današnji oblik zidina formiran je krajem 18. veka, s tim što je najveći deo građevina i zgrada koji su postojale u okviru tvrđave srušen u raznim ratovima.
