Description |
Nederlands: Bergerhout 1, hoek Geestersingel, Westerweg en Waterlaan, het Murmellius Gymnasium. Gevelsteen boven de entree, door Tjipke Visser (1876-1955), met een voorstelling van een leraar, die de klassieke cultuur overbrengt op de jeugd. Rijksmonument. Johannes Murmellius (1480-1517), een humanistische geleerde, had de Latijnse School in Alkmaar (1381-1856) beroemd gemaakt. In 1904 is er aan de Paternosterstraat, hoek Gasthuisstraat, weer een gymnasium gestart, later het Murmellius Gymnasium geheten. In 1939-1940 verrees er een nieuw gebouw aan de Bergerhout. De eerste steen werd gelegd op 12-7-1939 en op 2-9-1940 werd de school in gebruik genomen.
