Size: small cabinet, 8.4 x 6.0 x 2.8 cm
Monazite-(Ce) in Biotite
This old locality is home to the most classic old monazites, but they would be rarely seen on the market today. This specimen is superb, by any standard, old or new - and the shape distinguishes it from modern monazite from Brazil, Bolivia, and the few other locales where they can be found. This crystal is a really sharp, arrowhead-pointed, 5.3-cm-long crystal of lustrous brown color! It stands up off the matrix , which is a foliated mass of biotite mica. The crystal is solidly anchored, and is not repaired. All in all, this is a quite surprisingly display-worthy specimen for the species, something you do not expect to see often. Beyond that, its significant for boththe crystal size and shape.
