Summary[edit]

Description
English: Black Vulture - Coragyps atratus, Everglades National Park, Homestead, Florida. This is a bird with interesting habits. When threatened, it vomits, which repels predators and also lessens the weight of the vulture, allowing it to take off more easily. To cool itself, it urinates and/or defecates on its legs. The evaporation of the urine or wet matter in the feces cools the vulture. And in the Everglades, it supplements its carrion diet with the weatherstripping from car windows and sunroofs. What's not to love about a bird like this?  :-)
