Summary[edit]

Description
English: Bracket fungi on oak tree. Many old trees grow on the pastures and along the footpath through Dudwick estate. In 1198 the Dudwick estate was owned by Lord de Dudwik, who had the right, given to him by the King, to hang criminals; the gallows stood in the field beside Sandy Lane > 728068. Dudwick park was once populated by a herd of red deer, believed to be the oldest herd in Norfolk. The animals escaped during WWII and now populate the Marsham woods. In the 18th century the estate was owned by members of the Wright/Sewell families who lived in Buxton for many generations. Mary Wright, a sister of John Wright of (old) Dudwick House, was a famous author of children's books and her daughter Anna (1820-1878) became famous by writing Black Beauty > 667394 - 597716. http://www.buxton-norfolk.co.uk/h_houses.htm
