Summary[edit]

Description
English: These are my own designs using draw.io flow chart maker British Flag officers begin their career in the Blue Squadron if successful they are duly promoted up to the rank of Admiral in that squadron. The whole process is then repeated for the White Squadron then finally the Red Squadron. From 1702 to 1805 the highest rank an officer could attain to was Vice Admiral of the Red after that he had to be appointed Admiral of the Fleet. During the same period the Rear and Vice Admirals of the White commands flag were different the former had two blue balls in the upper left canton and the latter a single blue ball. In 1805 the rank of Admiral of the Red was introduced using the previous command flag of the Vice Admiral of the Red the latter was given a new command flag from this date as shown here. The correct promotion path sources come from the book British flags, their early history, and their development at sea; with an account of the origin of the flag as a national device by Perrin, W. G. (William Gordon), 1874-1931 published in 1922, Chapter IV Flags of Command pp. 73-109.. Addendum note: This is the incorrect promotion path of flag officers for this period.
