Description

1982 Ford Cortina Mark V 2.0 litre Ghia

The Ford Cortina is the epitome of the late twentieth century medium-sized motor car. It proved to be the car that the British family and the company car driver popularly chose to drive. It was produced at Ford's British plant at Dagenham for twenty years.

Codenamed 'Archbishop', the Cortina was introduced in September 1962, following a £13 million investment programme. The name Cortina was chosen to embody a sense of Italian spirit.

Much attention was given to the ease of production and reduction of complexity, as well as offering a wide range of engine and trim choices to suit all types of customer.

The final iteration of the Cortina, the Marc V, was introduced in 1979 and codenamed 'Teresa'. Although outwardly similar to the previous model. It was significantly re-engineered. This included more glass area for greater visibility, upgraded heating and ventilation, better quality trim and seats, improved ride and handling and enhanced corrosion resistance.

This particular car is one of the last of more than 4.2 million Cortinas produced and is in the top level Ghia specification.
