Summary
[edit]DescriptionBroomfield village sign - geograph.org.uk - 76189.jpg |
English: Broomfield village sign. Topped with the Kent Invicta the sign depicts a church bell and the home in Broomfield of the bell founder, Joseph Hatch. From 1606 to 1635 Joseph occupied Roses Manor Farm. Joseph cast his early bells in Broomfield but it is likely that many of his later bells were cast on his lands in King's Wood, in Ulcombe Parish. By his death in 1636 over 200 of his bells rang in Kent churches and in the cathedral at Canterbury. Today five hang in the church at Ulcombe 74189, one in Leeds 63742 and one in Broomfield. The sign stands next to 76188 |
