BARKER, Percy, Private 114412, (Memorial has 12th) 15th Sherwood Foresters, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment died 14th October 1918. He was the husband of Eliza nee Barnes (who he married in 1917) of 14, Spragg Street, Congleton, Cheshire. He is buried in Dadizeele New British Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. His Army Record (Burnt Docs) died not show a lot due to fire and water damage. He joined up on the 29th October 1917 as Private 34868, King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Gave his wife (whom he married on the 24th October 1917 at St Stephen's Church, Congleton, Cheshire) as his next of kin. His age was 25yrs and 5 months and he worked as a chemical labourer. On the 9th April 1918 he transferred to the Notts & Derby Regiment. He was killed in action, but the location was not stated.

BOULTON, Joseph, Private 49294, 16th Lancashire Fusiliers, formerly 34967, Cheshire Regiment,killed in action, 2nd October 1918. He was the son of Mrs Ellen Boulton of Elworth Street, Sandbach, Cheshire. In 1911 he was living with his parent, Joseph, Ellen and his siblings at Malkin Bank, Sandbach, Cheshire and aged 19 was working as a chemical labourer for Brunner Mond Buried at Joncourt East British Cemetery, Aisne, France

DIXON, William, Private, 290188, 1/7th (CWGC have 9th) Cheshire Regiment killed in action 3rd August 1917 aged 23.He was the son of John and Alice Dixon, of 646, Liverpool Road, Platt Bridge, Wigan. Born at Wheelock, Sandbach, Cheshire. he is buried at Oosttaverne Wood Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium

HANCOCK, William, Acting Lance Sergeant 6784 (CWGC have 10th) 2/7th Cheshire Regiment. He was killed in action 11th April 1918. Born in Sandbach and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium In 1881 he was living with his parents Levi and Catherine J, at Elworth Street, Sandbach, and his father worked for Brunner Mond and in 1911 he was residing with his wife at 16, Plants Cottage, Bradwall Road, Sandbach and gave his occupation as a farm labourer Some notes from his army records (Burnt Docs) He joined up 13th March 1902 at Crewe aged 22yrs and 6 months and went to the Cheshire's Depot and then on the 1st November 1902 joined his regiment the 2nd battalion. The notes are very brief and non informative. 17th July 1902 he was at Chester Castle . From 1902 until 1916 there are no records (In 1911 census he was at home with his wife as a civilian) 29th April 1916 he was transferred to No6 Observer Coy, Cheshire Regiment. 8th February 1917 he embarked Southampton for Rouen France and disembarked on the 9th. and joined the 11th Cheshire's in the field. 7th June 1917 he was paid Acting Lance Sergeant with the 10th Bn, 2nd August 1917 appointed Acting Lance Sergeant. He gave his father, Levi, as his next of kin in 1902 and he was living at The Hill, Sandbach. On the 28th April 1906 he married widowed Annie Sproston, nee Webb at Wesleyan Chapel, Sandbach, Cheshire and she became his next of kin. He had two brothers, Harry and David. Found army records for David He joined up 5th September 1914 as Private 15329, Cheshire Regiment. He gave his age as 29yrs and 13 days, occupation as labourer and lived at 11, New Street, Elworth, near Sandbach, Cheshire. He had previously served with the 5th Cheshire Volunteers. He gave his father, Levi as his next of kin of the same address and later on some correspondence from the army he lived at Smithfield Lane, Sandbach. He was promoted to Corporal in the field and served in France and Salonika. he embarked for BEF, France from Folkstone 6th September 1915 Embarked fro MEF from Marseilles 28th October 1915 disembarked Salonika 6th November 1915

LEESE, Harry, Private 8/11729, 8th Cheshire Regiment died Mesopotamia, 4th July 1916. aged 34. He was the husband of Lucy who in 1911 they were living with their daughter at 37, Sandbach Heath, Cheshire, and he was working at the chemical works. He is buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq

LEESE, Herbert, Gunner 154366, 297th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery died 26th March 1918. He was the husband of Annie of 15, Towngate, Holmfirth, Huddersfield. Buried at Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, Pas de Calais, France

OAKES, Abraham, Sergeant 290027, 7th Cheshire Regiment died 5th November 1918 aged 49. He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth who in 1881 was residing at Dingle Bank, Sandbach and in 1891 stationed at Salford Barracks, Salford, Lancashire. He was the husband of Mary Ellen, nee Bloor of 61, Silver Terrace, Sandbach Heath, Sandbach, Cheshire. he had three brothers and an army record was found for Thomas who joined up 14th July 1883 at the Depot of the King's Regiment as private 292, occupation, forge man (Iron worker) next of kin, Thomas and his mother Elizabeth living at Sandbach, with Moses, Philip, John and Abraham. He served in India 16th December 1883 to 2nd November 1885 and again in 4th August 1886 to 14th December 1890. In the middle he served in Burma from the 3nd November 1885 to 3rd April 1886, He was discharged from the army 12th September 1895 with the rank of Lance Corporal. 24th April 1900 he re-enlisted and he was now living with his wife Sarah Ann, nee Pierpoint whom he married at Sandbach on 9th May 1891 at 96, henry Street, Tunstall, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. H e was one again discharged from the army on the 21st June 1890 to 27, Sun Street, Tunstall. On the 8th April 1915 he re-enlisted into the 6th South Staffordshire Regiment at New Castle Under Lyme, Staffordshire and he was still residing at 27, Sun Street with his wife and daughter, Beatrice. He is buried at St Mary's Churchyard, Sandbach Cheshire

TRUEMAN, Daniel, Lance Corporal 6416, 8th Cheshire Regiment. Died 22nd May 1916 aged 35. He was the son of Samuel and Mary Ellen Trueman, of Sandbach and husband of Sarah Challinor (formerly Trueman), of 103, Union St., Sandbach, Cheshire. In 1911 he was living with his parents at 55, Union Street, Sandbach and he was working in the chemical works. Buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq

WAKEFIELD, George, Private 11743, 9th Cheshire Regiment. Died of wounds in England 20th November 1916 aged 24. He was the son of Frank and Margaret Ann. In 1911 he was living with his widowed mother and his brother, Frank at 146, The Heath, Sandbach, Cheshire and he was working in the chemical works as a labourer. He is buried in St John's Churchyard, Sandbach, Cheshire

WAKEFIELD, Joseph, 2/1st Yorkshire Hussars (This is the only Joseph Wakefield serving with a Yorkshire unit) Private 33818, 2nd Yorkshire Regiment formerly Private 39649, Essex Regiment and T/260925, Royal Army Service Corps, died of wounds in England 30th October 1918 aged 28. He was the son of Mrs H Wakefield of 46, Albert Street, Lytham. He is buried in St John the Divine churchyard, Lytham, Lancashire

This memorial was originally erected at the Sandbach Works of BRUNNER MOND & Co LIMITED and was removed to this site in 1934 owing to the closing down of those works
