For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Volksgut "Gerhard Eisler" in Pommritz, Kreis Bautzen geht neue Wege in der Schweinezucht. Der Betriebsleiter des Volksgutes, Georg Fischer, ein früherer Landarbeiter, fand sich nicht damit ab, dass die Sterblichkeit bei den Ferkeln 40 % und mehr betrug. Seit Januar 1950 führte er Versuche nach den Lehren Mitschurins durch, um die Schweine und Ferkel gesündere Lebensbedingungen zu schaffen und leistungsfähigere, abgehärtete Tiere zu züchten. Er richtete Schweinehütten aus Holzstangen und Strohdächern in Kleingehegen ein, in denen die Muttersauen einige Wochen vor dem Ferkeln untergebracht werden. Muttertiere und Ferkel halten sich im Sommer wie im Winter (auch bei 20 Grad Kälte) in den Hütten und im Freien auf. -Nach dieser Neueinführung schwand die Sterblichkeit bei den Ferkeln in kurzer Zeit gänzlich. Auch entwickeln die Ferkel durch den Aufenthalt im Freien eine derartige Freßlust, dass sie nicht mehr die früher notwendigen 12 Monate, sondern nur noch 8-9 Monate bis zur Schlachtreife (140-150 Kilogramm) benötigen.
