For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
ADN-ZB Roeske 6.5.89 Berlin: Wettbewerb- Rund 500.000 Tonnen mehr Baustoffe, Kohle und andere Massengüter als im Vergleichszeitraum des Vorjahres haben die Besatzungen der Binnenflotte bisher über die Wasserstraßen befördert. Zum Wahltag können die Schiffs- und Hafenkollektive des Berliner Kombinates Binnenschiffahrt und Wasserstraßen erfüllte Pläne bilanzieren. Etwa die Hälfte der seit Jahresbeginn per Schiff transportierten 6,5 Millionen Tonnen Güter sind Baumaterialien. Vorwiegend für den Wohnungsbau wurden Kies, Schlacke, Sand, Mörtel, Kalksandsteine, Ziegelsteine und vorgefertigte Betonelemente nach Berlin gebracht - hier an der Mühlendammschleuse. Jährlich werden mit den etwa 300 Motorgüter- und Schubschiffen sowie 1.000 Prahmen der Binnenflotte rund 20 Millionen Tonnen Güter aller Art, vor allem Baustoffe, Kohle, Erze und landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse, energieökonomisch auf dem Wasserstraßennetz der Republik befördert. - siehe auch ADN-Meldung vom 6.5.89-
