Zentralbild Junge 16.6.1966 Ostseebezirk Rostock: Werft- und Hafenstadt Wismar. Mittelalterliche Giebel, ein großer Marktplatz, Bauten der Gotik und Renaissance zeugen von der Bedeutung und Größe Wismars in der Hansezeit. Aber nicht das allein beeindruckt den Besucher, der nach Wismar kommt. Ihn nehmen vor allem der Hafen und die Mathias-Thesen-Werft gefangen, denn hier schlägt heute der Puls der Stadt. Zum Wahrzeichen der Stadt wurde nach dem 2. Weltkrieg die grosse Kabelkrananlge mit ihren Hellingen. Der Werft gegenüber liegen der Übersee-, der Öl- und Kalihafen. Die Schiffahrt verbindet Wismar mit den Staaten Afrikas und Asiens, mit der Sowjetunion und den Mittelmeerländern. UBz: Teilansicht vom Marktplatz. Rechts: Die Wasserkunst, ein tempelartiger Bau der holländischen Renaissance. Die Wasserkunst diente der Stadt bis 1987 zur Versorgung mit Quellwasser, das durch Holzröhren hierher geleitet wurde. Links im Hintergrund der "Alte Schwede", 1380 erbaut, das älteste erhaltene Wohnhaus der Stadt. |
