For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Erfurt, Augustinerkloster ADN-ZB Demme 14.11.1981 Lutherstätten in Erfurt: Detail (Oberlicht) vom ehemaligen Eingangsportal der Anfang des 14. Jahrhunderts geweihten gotischen Kirche des Augustinerklosters. Die Figur verkörpert den Heiligen Augustinus. Das Kloster der Augustiner-Eremiten, in dem Martin Luther von 1505 bis 1508 als Mönch lebte und Theologie studierte, ist eine der bedeutendsten Lutherstätten in der DDR. Große Teile der mittelalterlichen Klosteranlage waren gegen Ende des II. Weltkrieges von amerikanischen Bomben schwer getrofffen beziehungsweise zerstört worden. In Vorbereitung des Lutherjubiläums 1983 werden gegenwärtig umfangreiche Restaurierung- und Rekonstruktionsarbeiten am Augustinerkloster durchgeführt. (siehe auch Z1114-1,2,4 und 5n)
