English: An illustration of Thomas Cochrane, captain of the Speedy, during the Napoleonic Wars, by Charles Joseph Staniland.
Cochrane was a successful captain of the Napoleonic Wars, leading Napoleon to nickname him le Loup des Mers, 'the Sea Wolf'. He was successful in virtually all his naval actions, particularly in the western Mediterranean with his 14-gun sloop Speedy.
