Description
English: Animated GIF of comet C/2011 W3 (Lovejoy) as seen by the STEREO-A (Ahead) spacecraft's HI1 instrument on 18 and 19 December 2011 as it moves away from the Sun after perihelion. Easily visible in this series of images are the comet's curved dust tail and much-straighter ion tail, and what appears to be the comet's head decreasing in size.
