| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. Het eiland Lombok werd bewoond door twee groepen, namelijk Baliërs en Sasaks. In de 18e eeuw kwam het eiland geheel onder Balisch gezag. Van de verschillende Balische vorstendommen op Lombok werd Mataram - genoemd naar het voormalige Javaanse rijk Mataram - in de 19e eeuw het machtigste en uiteindelijk heerste het over heel Lombok. Toen de Sasaks zich bij het gouvernement beklaagden, besloot dit in 1894 tot interventie. Dat was het begin van het einde van zowel de onafhankelijkheid van Bali als van de Balinese overheersing van de Sasaks. Hier werd de 'Schat van Lombok' verworven. De Balinezen bleven wel op Lombok wonen en hielden een eigen 'hoofd', de op de foto afgebeelde functionaris. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Balisch hoofd in hofkostuum met bediende, Lombok. |
