Nederlands: Negatief. De bevolking van Nias was nog 'heidens' (niet moslim en niet christen) toen het koloniaal bestuur zich intensiever met het eiland ging bemoeien. In Zuid-Nias was het vrij gebruikelijk dat vrouwen van adelijke komaf dienden als sjamanen-priesteressen (ere) en dus contact hadden met de geestenwereld. De ceremoniële kleding was rijk bewerkt en de vrouwen droegen kostbare sieraden. Door de komst van islam en christendom is deze vrouwelijke functie in een overigens patrilineaire samenleving verdwenen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
