Nederlands: Negatief. Naast weven, was pottenbakken nog in de 20e eeuw een redelijk veel voorkomende activiteit op Sumatra. Ook hier had echter, net als bij de textiel, de import van elders tot achteruitgang geleid. In het geval van aardewerk moeten we vooral aan China denken. Op vele plaatsen in de Archipel behoort Chinees aardewerk tot de prestigegoederen. Import van Europese, Amerikaanse en later ook Japanse pannen deed de inheemse aardewerkproductie ook concurrentie aan. Op de foto zien we het vormen van de potten zonder pottenbakkerswiel.
