This depot stands at the site where the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway passenger depot stood in Ashtabula, Ohio. The depot was built in 1901 and until 2012 was used as a signal house for the railroad, CSX. Its historic significance is that is stands about 500 yards west of the site of the Ashtabula Bridge Disaster of Dec. 29, 1876, in which more than 90 persons lost their lives. Many of the injured and dead were taken to the passenger depot and hotels and bars near the disaster site. A group is attempting to raise money to save the building from demolition.
