Summary[edit]
DescriptionCalcite pseudomorph after gypsum, Hettangian, Saint-Chinian.jpg |
English: Polished vertical section of the surface of a continental sedimentary deposit of sebkha type.
The sediment is made up of fine-grained dolomite in which small crystals and micro-nodules are visible. The central rectangle was subjected to a 5% HCL solution for 1 minute at a temperature of 20° Celsius. Attack by HCl demonstrates that the small crystals are calcite pseudomorphs after gypsum and micro-nodules are calcite pseudomorphs after gypsum or anhydrite The dolomite was only lightly attacked. The calcite, on the contrary, was severely attacked and disappeared over a much greater thickness.
Localité : Chaînon de Saint-Chinian, Hérault (34)English: Calcite pseudomorph after gypsum, Hettangian, Saint-Chinian (France). |
