Summary[edit]
| Description | Seen from Trinity College bridge, i.e. from S. New Court was built to the designs of Thomas Rickman and Henry Hutchinson in 1827-31, the first college building west of the river, and the largest single college building to have been erected up to that date. As the Buildings of England (2014 edn.) observes, 'its neo-Perp[endicular] style is for the most part accurately observed, as Rickman's scholarly publications on Gothic would lead one to expect', but the layout and plan could equally well have been clothed in classical dress.
