| Description |
English: Cambridge Locomotive Yard. This photograph was taken in 1951 from an elevated position on the large mechanical coaler - I must have been quite agile! The Shed itself is on the right, adjoining the Station. In those days Cambridge's allocation was about 100 locomotives, of 16 different classes (B1, B17/1, B17/6, C12, D15, D16/2, D16/3, E4, F4, F5, J15, J17, J19, J66, J67 and J69). As well, London Midland locomotives, which worked in from Bletchley and from Kettering were serviced here. Actually, the three locomotives prominent below are a War Department 0-6-0T, a LM 2-6-0 and a LNE B1 4-6-0. See also TL4657 : Cambridge Locomotive Depot. |
