Description
English: A Camel is an even-toed mammal that bears distinctive fatty deposits known as humps on its back consists of stored fat, which they can metabolize when food & water is scarce.

Camels live in deserts, they have a thick coat of hair that protects them from the sun. Wide, soft feet, so they can walk for a long time in the hot sand. They are suited for unique environment.

Facts 1. Camels have been known to survive six or seven months without actually drinking. 2. Known as ships of the desert because they can move across desert sands easily providing a mode of transportation for people. They can eat almost anything & drink from waterholes that are bitter or saline. In the daytime, when the sun is high, the eyes do not allow excessive light in. 3. The name "Desert Ship" is derived when Someone saw herd of Camel crossing the "Run of Kutch" (a water channel) & entering desert (near Gujrat, rajistan), so named after that.

Specs: Scientific name: camelus bactrianus (Latin: camelus & Greek: κάμηλος (kamēlos) Used informally, "camel" & bactrianus inhabits Central Asia. Family: Camelidae Height: 1.8-2 meter approx. Weight: 400-1000 kg approx. Length: 10-11 ft approx. Speed: 40-65 kmph. Life Span: 40-50 years approx. Diet: Herbivore, eats leaves,grass, thorny dry roots in desert etc. Habitat: The dromedary (C. dromedarius), also known as the Arabian camel, inhabits the Middle East & the Horn of Africa, while the Bactrian (C. bactrianus) inhabits Central Asia, The Dromedary makes one hump, & the Bactrian makes two hump.

Status: Endangered.
