  • Published caption: KNOW YOUR CITY, NO.78 -- Although it shouldn't, this one may stump you. You get no hints--other than this probably is one of most historically significant spots in California. Something to do with signatures. Answers on Page 31, Part l.

  • Notes: ANSWER: Shown in the picture is the memorial, Campo de Cahuenga, scene of the signing of the Treaty of Cahuenga by Lt. Col. John C. Fremont of the U.S. Army and Gen Andres Pico of the Mexican forces. By this treaty, signed Jan. 13, 1847, the United States acquired California. This memorial building and courtyard are at 3919 Lankershim Blvd., near the Los Angeles River and across the street from Universal City.

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 72001602.
