Description
English: Central plaza of the Bockenheim Campus of the Goethe University Frankfurt. The entrance of the neo-baroque red sandstone "Jügelhaus" (named after the donor Carl Christian Jügel) dates to 1906 and originally housed Frankfurt's "Academy for Commercial and Social Sciences". It later became the main entrance of the university at what today is Mertonstraße 17-21. Designed by the architect Ludwig Neher (1850-1916), it echoes the corps de logis of the Mannheim Palace. It was modified after damage in World War II.
Deutsch: Campus Bockenheim der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Der Eingang des „Jügelhauses“ war der ehemalige Haupteingang des Hauptgebäudes der Universität in der heutigen Mertonstraße 17-21. Neobarockes Gebäude von 1906, Architekt Ludwig Neher (1850-1916). Errichtet als „Akademie für Handels- und Sozialwissenschaften“; Sandsteinfassade des Jügelhauses in formaler Anlehnung an den Mittelbau des Mannheimer Schlosses; nach Zerstörungen des Zweiten Weltkrieges verändert.
