Description
Postcard image of the Capital City Products building. Originally known as the Capital City Dairy Company, it was founded by Edmund P. Kelly and Henry C. Pirrung in 1883 to manufacturer a butter substitute known as butterine, or margarine. From small beginnings, they eventually moved to a large facility at 525 West 1st Avenue in 1901. In 1919, the name was changed to Capital City Products. Production was expanded to include vegetable shortenings, mayonnaise and cooking oils. The Company closed down in 2000, and the building was demolished in 2004.
