Summary[edit]
DescriptionCastle Stalker - geograph.org.uk - 1167058.jpg |
English: Castle Stalker This castle was built in the 15th century by Duncan Stewart of Appin who aided King James IV in his campaign against the Lords of the Isles. He built the castle as a hunting retreat for the King with himself as its keeper. The name, Stalcaire, or Stalker, meaning hunter,is said to be the origin of the phrase deer stalking. The castle in its picturesque setting in Loch Laich was owned by the Stewarts until its abandonment after the '45 but was restored in the mid 20th century. |
