Summary[edit]

Description
English: Castlefield Junction, Manchester This is an important point on the waterway system, and especially on the Cheshire Ring, for here the Rochdale Canal joins the Bridgewater. The Bridgewater is behind the photographer, and the Rochdale (with Lock No 92 visible) in front. To the right and left are various basins. The route to the left once gave access into the River Irwell, but once the Manchester Ship Canal had opened, that river lost its importance as a navigation.
