[edit]DescriptionCatesby Tunnel Airshaft from below - geograph.org.uk - 243892.jpg |
English: Catesby Tunnel Airshaft from below. Supplemental to the geograph already submitted, here is the same airshaft from below ground. 15ft in diameter, it was the largest shaft, and the only one to be sunk in the northern half of the tunnel due to restrictions imposed by the owner of Catesby House, under whose grounds the tunnel passed. The 1m 1240yd tunnel, on the former Great Central Railway between Charwelton and Braunston & Willoughby, was opened in 1840 and closed on 3 September 1966. Photo from 1979. |
