Summary[edit]
DescriptionCathedral beasts.jpg |
English: Many of the cathedrals I saw in and around Paris included at least one statue of Jesus standing on unidentifiable animals. I was traveling with another medievalist and finding iconography by which we were both stumped was unusual, so we simply referred to them as, "the foot-weasels of Christ." Later research informed us they were representations of Christ treading on the beasts. These particular specimens were spotted cavorting on the western façade of Notre Dame de Paris. |
