| Description |
English: Causey (causeway) stones, Rookes Lane, Hipperholme. These survive in a number of places along Rookes Lane and Till Carr Lane. They were installed to allow pedestrians to avoid the mud. There appear also to have been upright stones, perhaps to stop carts from mounting the causeway. The squeeze stile gives access to the wooded hillside, along which there is a public footpath parallel to the lane another way of avoiding the mud. |
