English: Cei Balast When sailing ships returned to Porthmadog without a cargo they carried a load of stones as ballast to give the vessel stability. This island is formed entirely from such waste. On older maps it is called Ballast Bank and the original name was Lewis Island. Photo taken from my bedroom window! |
