Description
English: Ceiling under the tower, St Sampson's Church, Cricklade. The ornate ceiling compares well with the one in Bath Abbey 717407 The bell ropes can be seen passing through the ceiling into the bell tower 1476297 The tower was built in 1553 at the expense of Robert Dudley, Earl of Northumberland, later beheaded in the same year by 'Bloody Mary', the Catholic queen who died, most unfairly, of natural causes aged 42.
