Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1901, this Romanesque Revival-style church was designed by Reuben Harrison Hunt and built by C. C. Davis for the congregation of Central United Methodist Church, and was expanded with an educational wing to the east circa 1930 in the Tudor Revival style. The building features a painted brick exterior with a hipped roof, front and side gables, a corner tower with a pyramidal hipped roof and open belfry, decorative patterned brickwork and brick corbeling, roman arched bays with stained glass windows, a rough-hewn stone base, stone trim, a front loggia with arched openings, an educational wing to the east with a red brick exterior, gabled roof, one-over-one windows, decorative wooden trim and brackets on the gable ends, and a projected entrance bay, and a neotraditional addition to the north with a red brick exterior, hipped roof, and Palladian windows. The building is a contributing structure in the Newberry Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and increased to its present size in 2004. The building today remains in use by the Central United Methodist Church of Newberry.
