Summary[edit]

Description
English: Cerussite
Locality: Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: 3.4 x 3.4 x 3.4 cm.
It is EXCEEDINGLY difficult to obtain these Tsumeb cerussites that have the purity and gemminess to have the look of fine leaded cut glass, as this one does. You may have seen one such crystal (admittedly, in a totally different class!) on the cover of the recent Tsumeb book that is in the Houston Museum, with this sort of clarity. They actually throw off spectral colors - and that is not surprising, since cerussites have high lead content just as fine leaded crystal does. This crystal has formed a complete glassy pane that is complete back and front and all the way around, except for contact along one side (or bottom, depending on how you display it) where the specimen was removed from the host rock. But the main crystal portion is not damaged, in any case.
