Description
The Aabenraa was built in Scotstoun, Glasgow in 1921 by Yarrow and Co. (yard no. 1457). She was built for the shipping company Nord-Østersø Rederiet DS A/S, Copenhagen. In February 1924 she was sold to Dampskibsselskabet af 1912 (part of the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group) and became the Agnete Mærsk. In April 1940, when Denmark was invaded by Germany, she was in British waters and was retained there. In February 1941 she was taken over by the Ministry of Shipping and became the Abenraa again. On 24/03/1941 torpedoed and shelled by Italian submarine VENIERO in 49N - 22.55W on passage Ardrossan for St. John NB in ballast.
