Français : Charlet N.T. - Lithography - Mr Pigeon en grande tenue - 26.8x21.2cm; cette lithographie porte le numéro 53 du catalogue de La Combe (section III : Pièces imprimées chez Delpech) avec cette description : « Portant lunettes, coiffé de ridicules ailes de pigeon, il monte sa garde de soldat-citoyen. Pour puiser plus à son aise dans sa tabatière, il a placé son fusil contre sa guérite, et la baïonnette soutient le bonnet à poil. Pièce moyenne en hauteur portant seulement le nom de Charlet. ». Cette pièce qui date de 1818 est réputée rare. Cependant le classement dans la section III du catalogue est une erreur de La Combe ; en effet la lithographie porte au bas à droite une marque estampée (Lugt L.3917) qui est celle du comte Charles-Philibert De Lasteyrie du Saillant, premier imprimeur de Charlet et un des premiers promoteurs de la lithographie en France (actif en tant que lithographe de 1816 à 1818). La présence du cachet se lit comme un signe de qualité, mais elle documente aussi le rôle de Lasteyrie dans la réalisation de la lithographie sur laquelle son nom ne figure pas. Delpech vendait parfois les lithographies de Lasteyrie.
Le personnage de Mr Pigeon se retrouve dans une autre lithographie de l’artiste, parue dans l’album lithographique de 1826 (« Mr Pigeon solliciteur », n°626 du catalogue). |
