Description
English: Christmas revels at Haddon Hall, Derbyshire, as illustrated in volume I (1839) of Mansions of England in the Olden Time, by Joseph Nash. Mummers play while musicians perform in the balcony. Haddon Hall was famous for Christmastide hospitality and feasts during the Twelve Days. Sometimes groups of mummers would perform morality plays. Here, in addition to Morris dancers are seen a dragon, a giant, a wild man, a mounted knight, and others. "Carefully reduced and executed in lithography" by Samuel Stanesby (Henry Sotheran, 1869–72).
