Church of the ascension of the Virgin Mary in Zembin

Summary[edit]

Description
English: For a long time this church was the main temple of the Dominican monastery founded in the village of Zembin in 1640. After 150 years, there was a fire that destroyed the wooden building. A new brick church was erected in its place in 1809. The architecture of the temple harmoniously combines the features of baroque and classicism. The Zembinsky monastery was damaged during the Napoleonic wars, then the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was confiscated by the tsarist authorities. Only at the beginning of the 20th century did it reopen its doors to parishioners. In 1932, a wave of religious repressions took place and services ceased. The temple began to gradually collapse. Today, only the walls and a monumental pediment, decorated with a statue of the Mother of God, remain from it. But even in this state, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary makes a strong impression.
