Summary[edit]

Description
English: City Gate Hotel, Exeter This 1830s building ("quietly Italianate" -Cherry & Pevsner) was formerly the Crown and Sceptre. City Gate is not an unreasonable name as it stands very close to the site of the vanished North Gate, removed in 1769. Seen here from Lower North Street; the railings are on the approach to the Iron Bridge, built at the same time as the hotel. A Young's pub, as indicated by the well-known ram symbol
