Summary[edit]

Description
English: The building known universally as the Gherkin is officially 30, St Mary Axe and is close to Liverpool Street Station and even closer to the Lloyds of London building in the heart of the City of London. Built for the Swiss reinsurance company, Swiss Re. To please the public Sir Norman Foster, the architect, had the glass panels that cover the building delivered and installed with green plastic protective covering and for one night only the lights were turned on so that the building could live up to its nickname. Good call Sir Norman. A truly iconic new London landmark building. Please see attached Wikipedia entry for other examples of his work. I particularly recommend The Milau Viaduct in the South of France, driving over which remains one of my main ambitions, and the Sage in Gateshead and the new Wembley Stadium
