Summary[edit]

Description
English: Class 47707, Barrow Hill At the end of the steam era, I lost interest in the railways, but in 1983 I took my 6-year-old son on a few trainspotting trips and gained interest once more. The following year this locomotive, Class 47707, was involved in a fatal accident when pushing its train, which had became derailed.

When passengers board a train they will most likely not be aware that on occasions a heavy locomotive is at the rear propelling them along the track at speeds of up to 100mph and sometimes even more. The high-speed electric trains usually leave the capitol with Class 91 locomotive running first and on the return journey, the locomotive is at the rear. A Class 91 weighs 81.5 tonnes and has been run at speeds of up to 140mph. Class 91019 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/107170 Class 47/7s were run as push-pull between Glasgow and Edinburgh and 47707 is seen here on that service as it passes Eastfield depot - http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/1180.jpg

When locomotive hauled trains were replaced on that service with units, some of the 47/7s were used on parcel trains. 47707 was named Holyrood.
