Summary[edit]

Description
English: CLASS 47 47840 started life as No. D1661 "NORTH STAR”. A successful first generation member of British Railways diesels, these Brush Type 4’s have done everything from passenger trains to the big mineral hauls. 47840 was one of the first of the Class to be allocated to the Western Region and the name it was given was from Great Western tradition. 47840 finished its main line career fitted with long range fuel tanks for cross country that took them around the UK. It retired to the West Somerset Railway after withdrawal from mainline work.
