[edit]DescriptionClass 66 diesel locomotive 66713 'Forest City' - geograph.org.uk - 1754235.jpg |
English: Class 66 diesel locomotive 66713 'Forest City' Class 66 diesel locomotive 66713 'Forest City' bringing supplies of sand and crushed stone ballast to the work site at Reedham station.
The line between Reedham and Cantley is closed over the weekend whilst a new track is being laid > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1753536. The old rails and sleepers have been removed > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1751738. They were replaced over night by a new track. Diesel locomotives such as the low emission Class 66725 'Sunderland' > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1753545 have brought the required materials such as rails, sleepers, sand and crushed stone ballast to the section being presently worked on. The trains have also brought a crane, a digger that can move on rails > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1754244 and a JCB. The men will be working day and night so as not to disrupt rail traffic for any longer than necessary and the portable lights positioned along the lineside will illuminate the track at night. The new track can be seen at right. The Class 66 is a six axle diesel electric freight locomotive developed for use on the railways of the UK. Since its introduction the class has been very successful and has been sold to British and other European railway companies. GB Railfreight - owned by First Group (First Great Western) - entered the freight haulage business in mid 2001, and is one of three British operators using Class 66 locos, 12 of which are in GBRf service at present. These locos are the same as the EWS 66/0s > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1604035 and Freightliner 66/5s but have their own classification due to a different owner. |
