| Description | If this isn't the ultimate insult to humanity, then what is? A metal bed with shackles used for torture forms a sombre background to a school teacher's desk and chair at the Toul Sleng S-21 prison. What a way to use a sacred institution like a school for such frenzied madness? Here, enter deranged lunatic # 2: (Pol Pot was # 1). The maniac in charge here was one Kang Kek Lew, also called Duch. He was the prison in-charge and chief torture in-charge. He used to prescribe the form of torture to use, and then give commands like 'smash them to pieces', or 'send xxx (number) for execution, keep xxx (number), retain xxx (number) for medical experiments. This screwball is still alive and is now languishing in prison. (Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Apr/ May 2014) |
