English: Clearing the pond in Digby's Dell, Pound Wood Pound Wood has two ponds. One, here in Digby's Dell, and another nearby in Bullock's. They are both thought to have been produced as bomb craters in World War II, though there is no documentary evidence for this. When the Essex Wildlife Trust http://www.essexwt.org.uk/ bought Pound Wood, this pond was choked, with little open water. After removing the trees that were shading it in 1993, a major clearance was done in 1994. With occasional subsequent clearances, this is now a delightful woodland pond with a good range of wildlife, including several dragonflies and damselflies. |
