| Description |
English: Clockmill Lane, Meadowbank. The lane connecting London Road with Royal Park Terrace has been superseded by the more modern roads to either side of it. It is a relic of the original road from Holyrood Abbey via the village of Restalrig to the fishing village of North Leith, granted to the monks by David I in the abbey charter of 1128 AD. The eastern section, which passed by the original St Margaret's Well (removed to Holyrood Park), has entirely disappeared under later developments at Meadowbank. Remains of the well still exist under the modern sports centre. 911510 |
